The LECD lamp is fabricated by applying several layers of ceramics on a thin piece of steel. Each of these layers is processed at temperatures that exceed 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit. Encapsulated in one of these layers is a mixture of light phosphors. When electricity is passed through these layers, electrons bombard the light phosphor molecules and cause them to emit photons. Since this process does not depend upon heat to generate light, the conversion from electrical energy to electrical energy is very efficient.

Unless a mechanical defect occurs, the LECD lamp will not catastrophically fail. It will degrade in light output over time. The brightness of the lamp is primarily controlled by the electrical frequency. As you increase frequency (Hz) you increase the brightness.  Life lengths of 50,000 hours can be expected.
